UP SODIC LANDS RECLAMATION III PROJECT
 

The Government of Uttar Pradesh (GoUP) has designed and submitted a project for reclamation of sodic and ravine lands with the title of UP Sodic Lands Reclamation III Project (UPSLRIIIP) to the World Bank with proposed financing from the IDA. The development objective of the project is to increase agricultural productivity in selected areas of degraded lands in UP. The objective will be achieved through reversal of water-induced land degradation, enhancement of soil fertility and improved provision of agricultural support services. It aims to sustainably reverse the process of land degradation and fertility loss, thus enhancing agricultural productivity. By focusing on the reclamation of land for the poorest section of farmers, the project is expected to contribute significantly to poverty alleviation and improved food/nutrition security in the project areas. It is expected to have favorable impacts on the income of farmers and improve the profitability of farm production by enhancing local-level capacities for production as per the market demand and provide post-production support for value-adding activities to enable producers to access non-traditional markets. The project will also help towards closing the “productivity gap” in agriculture in the state by improving extension to promote new agricultural technologies and agronomic practices. The project would be implemented in Allahabad, Aligarh, Auraiya, Azamgarh, Barabanki, Etah, Etawah, Farukkhabad, Fatehpur, Firozabad, Ghazipur, Hardoi, Jaunpur, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Kaushambi, Lucknow, Mainpuri, Pratapgarh, Raebareli, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Sitapur, Sultanpur and Unnao districts.

 

The total project cost is US$ 197 million. Project components and cost is as follows:

The World Bank First Project Preparation Mission was in the State during the period of 1st September 2008 to 5th September 2008 followed by Specialist Subject Matter Mission visit to Lucknow over the period of December 2008.
The Second Project Preparation Mission of the World Bank was on the visit to Lucknow from 5th January 2009 to 15th January 2009.
Third project preparatory mission of the World Bank was on the visit to Lucknow from 5th February 2009 to 10th February 2009.
The Project Appraisal Mission was in the State during the period of 11th May to 13th May 2009.
The Project was negotiated with the World Bank on 4th June 2009 by the Senior Officers of the Government of India and Government of Uttar Pradesh.
The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors has approved the project with the IDA credit of US $ 197 million equivalent on 30th June 2009.
The legal documents of the project were signed on 20th July 2009.
The project made effective on 18th September 2009.
Expected closing date of the project 31st December 2015.

The World Bank First Implementation Support Mission was in the State during the period of 4th November 2009 to 8th November 2009.
The World Bank Second Implementation Support Mission was in the State during the period of 9th April 2010 to 16th April 2010.
As Per World Bank Guidelines, UP Sodic Lands Reclamation III Project is completed on 29/12/2018.
